Microsoft Dynamics RMS (Archived)

Scanning in customers and a few other questions

Posted on by 20

Unfortunately our developer is being shielded from those of us actually using RMS and encountering issues on a new setup. So, before proposing some solutions to management, I would like to get an idea on what is actually possible in RMS. Any advice appreciated;

1) What solutions are available to scan in a new customer into the system via their state issued drivers license or ID? I understand that there will be some IDs that may not work but 90% will be a specific state DL. We have the merchandise barcode scanners but I have no idea if that hardware will work and/or if there needs to be an intermediate app running to fill in the info obtained from the ID. We will have to manually enter a phone number and email but entering all other info automatically would be of great help.

2) When entering customers the tab key seems to be setup skip the state etc and goes to the zip. About 5% of the time entering the zip will autofill the city and state. Is this a simple setting that can be changed to have the tab function go directly to the next entry instead of the above behavior?

3) We have to re-enter the customer# (which is their state ID number) into another location that is labeled DL#. How difficult is it to auto populate one field with info already entered into another?

4) We have to enter info in the notes to affirm a step was taken along with the date and the associates initials. How difficult is it to add a checkbox that will automatically populate the date and initials of the associate logged in into a field along with some custom text such as "Agreement signed, 1/1/15 JDS"?

5) What options are available for a wireless credit card reader? We have a POS location that is physically separated from some customers being able to get to the reader without a long walk around. It would be easier to be able to take the reader to them to complete payment/signing/entering debit pin code.

6) We have tablets with RMS installed but apparently the POS part was not purchased for these (asked for serial etc when launching POS) however we can get into the management module. We need the ability to enter new tickets/transactions and put them on hold. We will not be closing or tendering anything from these tablets. Does this require the POS module or can it be done from within any of the other modules?

7) What are the option available to combine/merge or split tickets? The situation is that a ticket is created and put on hold and then when the customer is ready to check out they have changed their mind on payment and will either want to split the ticket, having some items paid for by one person and other by another person. Or, they want to tickets combined.

8) How difficult is it to have a confirmation step required before proceeding to another step? For example, a ticket is pulled up from hold status and you go to tender the ticket but after you hit tender, a big popup comes up that says "Confirm you have received the key from the customer!" and you have to click confirm before proceeding.

I certainly do not expect a step by step on how to accomplish the above but would just like to know the complexity and if these are things already built into RMS or if it will take some custom programming to complete.

Thanks

    1)  RITE has an addon that does this.

    www.rite.us/.../ExpressCustomerSetup.aspx

    2)  You could use something like People Pop by NWT.  It looks up customer records online and populates rms customer fields with that information

    www.techadvantage.com.au/.../nwt-people-pop.html

    3) A trigger on customer creation could be added to the sql database.  So you would only enter on the first field and it would copy that to the correct spot in the database for the DL#

    4) this would be a custom addin.

    5) You would need a wireless terminal, like a windows tablet with an MSR (Surface 3 with USB MSR) or Partech has a tablet with a builtin MSR.

    6)  This requires the POS module since it is tied to potential sales and money.

    7) RMS does split tickets, but you have turn on some options to allow split payments and have one person pay a certain amount and the next person pay the remaining amount.

    8)  This would be a custom addin.

Any custom addin would require a rms certified partner and knowledgeable programmer to create.  I do these all the time.
