De-identifying data AFTER responses have been submitted in Customer Voice

We are planning to send out anonymous surveys. However, in the survey, we give respondents the opportunity to provide their name and email for the purpose of us sending them a relevant link. I'm using Power BI to create a dashboard for the responses, but don't want to have the optional name and email in the data set. I would like the data to be removed at the source, rather than removing it within Power BI, to prevent possible "leaks" of identifying information.

What is the best practice to remove those columns (the identifying data) from the data source I'll be using for Power BI?

I've considered creating a DataMart or Dataset that hits the source where responses are stored, and then deleting or removing the columns in the newly created data set, which I could then link to with the Power BI.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hello SVan

For leak risk minimisation, best thing to do is to not read the columns from the dataverse tables.

To do so, just create an isolation layer via the Power BI DataFlow. The DataFlow will read only the needed columns. This DataFlow should be editable by a restricted group of users only.

Of course, Your DataFlow will to be totally isolated from the data flow in charge of sending the links.

You dataset will then not point to the dataverse tables (so no risk to keep the door open) but it will be sourced via the DataFlow

DataFlow admins and Report/Dataset Admin should belong to two distinct groups to ensure the isolation

nb: there are  some Privacy Regulations concerns like purpose of the collection of data AND data retention period.

Reming to provide the purpose for the collection of data

and wrt retention policy, You have no way to anonymize informations coming from a response, in the source data.

Your source data, the one on the CV hidden operational database, will keep on storing this information until you delete the response from Customer Voice: the dataverse tables you have access to, contain a copy of the CV operational tables.

Let me know if this is a proper answer.

    Regards

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. I appreciate the guidance and will give it a go. It seems like that isolation layer is the key to make it work.
