Field explanations

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Is there a way to know what a field is for/what is does from the D365 environment itself?

I see when I hover over some fields, it does explain it. However there are also fields that only display the name of the field again instead of explaining what it is and what it does.

Is there a link or something extra to follow that will explain the fields/functions?

Thanks

Unfortunately there isn't any single resource which can tell you  the functionality of a each field used. I even think that one such resource can be created as you can always create new fields. As suggest by Ben, you need to get more understanding of the application and you will come to know about most the fields / functionality eventually.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Lizel ,

You need to go to settings --> Customization --> Customize the System /Solution --> Expand Entity -->Fields --> Open the field which you need to put the details --> Fill the description text.

    Check here with screenshot -

    Hope this helps .

What type of field it is will tell you a lot about what it's for. Is it a text field, an option set, a calculated field, a whole number, a date, etc.

Check out this page for good learning resources:

Once you get a general overview of Dynamics, jump into the course on CustomerSource for Dynamics Customers called "Customization and Configuration in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016." That was one of the more helpful resources I found when trying to learn early on.
