DexToNet Compatibility with Dynamics.exe

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We are using a very old third party component called "DexToNet". It was used to call Dexterity Scripts from .net in past. We have a very old application that is using this with dexterity 8. We are looking forward to upgrade it to Dex 16. However, not sure if DexToNet will supported by Dex 16 or not. I know that there are better ways to call Dex from .net in the newer versions but thinking to avoid that work in the first phase of upgrade if possible.

Wondering if anyone ever come across DexToNet and have the answer to my question ? I already tried upgrading the dictionary to Dex 16 and after that is not able to call DexToNet. So my guess is that it is not supported with latest version.

Thanks,

Himal

    Mariano,

Thanks for your reply, Yes, VST for Dynamics GP provides all that we need but the issue was that it requires a complete rewrite for an application developed using DexToNET over the span of 20 years. So that isn't a way to go. As i mentioned above, upgrade solved this problem.

    Thanks,

    Himal,

You have much more powerful options available for Dynamics GP 2016. You can now use Visual Studio Tools for Microsoft Dynamics GP (VST) to extend GP via event handlers and calls to the application's business logic. VST also implements WinForms, which is an implementation of Dexterity-like forms for .NET. If you must run sanScript logic against GP, you can use the Continuum Integration Library (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6800) which can be referenced from VST or other .NET applications. In my experience, VST covers 85% to 95% of customizations via .NET. I have a number of samples and presentations I've delivered over the years on my blog explaining the development techniques around VST. Please reply if you need further assistance.

    Hi Himal,

Did you ever found out if that module could be retired from GP 2016 ? was it replaced by something else or an update release ?
