POS2009 offline db too big

In POS2009, apparently the entire database from the server is being copied to the offline database. Since the offline db is using SQL Server Express, it has reached the 4G limit and will no longer synchronize. The customer got kicked into offline mode but can't get out because it can't sync with the main db. Any suggestions?
