CRM2011 - "Add Notes" button

Is there some reasoning why the Add Notes button is only available if you can 'Write" to the Notes entity?

I have a scenario where I need the users to add notes (Create) but not change the existing notes.  The inline note editing with the restricted security is causing some significant usability issues.  Using the Add Notes button would solve this but Create security alone won't allow us to user this.

What is the best approach to solve this?

    Hi Bradlecp,

Correct me if I am wrong, I tried the Note without the 'Write' access and I was able to create new Note.

Have you added the Append priv in the Note and the Append to in the related entity.

    Thanks.

The issue I am running into a problem with the availability of the "Add Notes" button in the ribbon.  Right now the options I understood is I can provide "Write Access" which will allow users to change existing notes, or to provide "Create" access which makes the ribbon button go away.

I would like to allow users to add notes using the "Add Notes" using the ribbon button UI, but not allow them to change existing notes.

    Hi Bradlecp,

You might limit the scope of the Write permissions to Own. That way a user will not be able to change notes of other users. That's one step closer to what you are trying to accomplish.
I don't think it is possible to make existing notes read only.

    Hi Bradlecp,

You can add new Note if you have the create access, and if you don't have the Write Access, but you have the Create Access and Append Access in Note, you can still add new Note and cannot write as well and it solves your problem?

That does get me close to where I want to be, but having users able to update their own notes still provide opportunity to change a message or remove comments which isn't correct.  I believe the current settings on the "Add Note" button should be on Create or Write security settings and not just write.

    Thanks for the feedback.

We are having the same issue, but we would like to remove the edit notes functionality for performance reasons.   When user does not have write privilege notes load much quicker, however this removes the ability to attach files to the new notes as well as the add notes button on the ribbon.   Let me know if you found any resolution, we only see a custom solution possible which is very unfortunate.
