Advanced Search - twe entities at the same time

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I need to search two entities at the same time. Therefore i want to use Advanced Search.

I want to get a nice overview of all the open/planned/closed activities. To create this overview I need to search for activities within Opportunities (first entity) and for activities within Projects (second entity).

Can someone help me create an Advanced Search based on the problem above?

(I tried using the OR function, but I am not sure if I'm using this function correctly)

Please explain it to me step by step.

Thank you so much in advance!

    Hi Tessa,

You would create 2 new Views on the Activities entity:

    1. Activity Status equals Open/Planned/Closed & Regarding (Opportunity)

    2. Activity Status equals Open/Planned/Closed & Regarding (Project)

Then create a new dashboard and add the views to the Dashboard

Thank you very much Ryan, so if I understand correctly i need to use Activities as Entity and then search for (related) Projects (1) and for (related) Opportunities ?

    2. if I used the advanced search, how can i make a Dashboard with this information ?

    Again thank you very much

You cannot apply OR operator to related entities.

    Neither you can apply JOIN.

It has two be two separate view with regarding opportunity/ project contains data clause.

    Hi Tessa,

I don't believe you can do an OR search across multiple related entities OOTB.  The best approach for you would be to have two separate searches (i.e. one for Opportunities and one for Projects) and put them on a Dashboard.
