Hi,
When I select + button on a sub-grid it opens a new window - is there a setting available where it opens up in a new tab rather than popping out a new window?

Unfortunately there is no straight forward OOB settings to open subgrid forms in a new tab. Subgrid window you can open either in a quick create or new popup window. For new tab you need to customize the "+ " button using ribbon workbench and call custom JS function.

You can click on the "+" button with the "Ctrl" key to open the new window in a new tab.
