Is it possible to have an application db not show in the login screen except for SYSADMIN user?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi

Does anyone know if there is a way to have an application db not show when a user F3 in the login screen.  I would only need the db to show for SYSADMIN and not for any of the other SL users.

Thank you
Ian

I believe the PV you are looking for is Company_Active.  You would have to modify the PV Record to exclude that DB.  Then load the PV.  Anyone needing into it would have to type it in directly as it would never show in the PV but the Proc would allow it.  Since you are not windows authenticated SL has no way of knowing who you are until you login.

    Hi Carolyn

    Thank you for your reply.

We are using SL7, the login screen i was referring to is the one with 'Company', 'UserID' and 'Password' textboxes. F3 in the 'Company' box will bring up a list of all the application dbs associated with the system db the user has selected from the 'Find Database' screen.

I was looking for a way of removing at least one of the application dbs from the list as it is only used for management purposes.

Thank you for the product feedback suggestion, i will follow up with that, if you have any other ideas i would appreciate hearing them.

    Kind Regards

    Ian

    Hello Ian,

I can't see anywhere you can F3 in the login screen in SL 2011.  In the Find Databases screen, after you select the SQL Server name and tab off, the Database Name field populates with all system and application databases.  You can then choose your system database from the pull down menu.  I don't know of a way to restrict which databases show in that list that wouldn't compromise the system.  I don't know why they show application database names in that field since you must select the system database.

You might consider entering a product suggestion in CustomerSource in the Product Feedback section under Communities.

Let me know if I misunderstood your question.
