Dynamics crm solution

Posted on by 1,017

Hi,

We have 3 dynamics crm envitonments - Dev, Test and Prod.

Presently our environments are not in sync, we are planning to match up all the enviroinments in couple days.

We have a requirement to create new field in one of the entity. If I directly create this fields in all those environments will it be a problem? Will there be Guid,s created in the backend if I create a feild?

I am worried if so, because if I create manually they dont match up, correct?

Thanks

Yes, your should be able to create the field without issues.

Also, if you production environment contains the most accurate data, your might be able to replicate that environment and create dev and test out of it.

    Hi James,

You can create the field directly, it's not going to be a problem unless you are trying to access that field in your code using hard-coded guid value. If you are accessing it by hard-coded guid values, it will be a problem if tomorrow you push your UAT solution to production.

It's recommended to always keep the environments in sync. If it's an on premise, take DB back up of prod and restore to dev and from now move solutions from Dev->UAT ->PROD as Aric said.

In case of online, you have to copy the prod to dev(sandbox) but there certain considerations needs to be taken care as mentioned here.

Mark this as answer if it helps.

    Hi Aric,

Thanks for the quick response. In my scenario, production is having the latest than any other two environments.

If I push a dev solution into Prod I am worried that it will overwrite my Opportunity entity.

Can I proceed creating manually  those fields now in Prod?

Will there be a guid created with that field?

    Thanks

Usually you match the fields in the environments based on a solution.

You create a solution in your dev environment, and then export it and deploy/import it into your test and production environment.

There should not be a problem doing that.

You don't need to incorporate you entire solution as an update, you can create a patch. You should think about this in general, because as time progresses you will make additional changes to your solution. You should follow the solution logic in the future.

Not sure you need this, but below is a link on using solutions:
