Management Reporter to not overwrite previous report

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am beginning to use the destination to library and linking them to folders to save my reports, but the problem I'm having that the report overwrites the last one, I want to add to the folder not to replace the previous report, any idea how to accomplish that? I.e every Monday we send out budget reports, I want the reports to sit there for the whole month ( I can manually delete them later) but I want them to not overwrite.

Like Matt said, in Report Viewer you just right-click on a report, and select Show Versions to see previously run reports.

There is another option that requires a bit of maintenance, but once the report is run, open the previous versions window, like above, select a report, and click Rename, then you can add the date to it.  Your users would have to know that the visible report is only the most recently ran version, and teach them how to access the other versions.  *** NOTE:  I have never tried to rename a previously run report myself, so I don't know all of the potential unknowns related to this feature.  Use caution & Test, Test, Test!! ***

    Hope this helps!

MR uses versioning.  If you are using the Application Viewer, you can right-click on the report and click show versions to see all the different versions of the report that were generated.  This can similarly be done in the web viewer as well.

The only other ways to keep them separate is to generate to a different folder or have separate report definitions.
