PO Requisition

Posted on by 1,608

It's been sometime since I've looked at this.  To show my age, last time we were working with Business Portal.  I have a client on GP18.3.  They use core financials GL, AP and bank rec are are interested in implementing purchase orders with requisitions.

My understanding is their starter license already includes purchasing/requisitions.  For department leads and managers to create requisitions online will they require an additional limited licenses.  Moreover will we need to implement web services and the web client to facilitate this functionality?  Is there any additional licensing requirement.

Please advise.  look forward to a response.

    RE: PO Requisition

Only 'Full' user types would be able to approve workflows. Self Service and Limited users are more inquiry/reporting user types, other than the Requisition/Project/HR items that the Self Service is able to enter, similar to what users could do in Business Portal, i.e. enter a requisition, enter a project timesheet, enter an employee timecard, etc.

Approval of workflows can be done in the Dynamics GP application or through email notifications. Through the email notifications requires the usage of Web Services for Dynamics GP, as the approval links in the workflow emails are making calls to the Web Services native endpoint URL, i.e. ServerName:48620/.../GPService.

    Thanks

    Thank you Derek,

Appreciate the feedback.  I have a quick follow up question:

As for the self service license is that just for the person entering the requisition?  What about the approver(s).  Is the approval also done in the app or is that done through an e-mail notification?  Please advise.

    Thank you.

    RE: PO Requisition

When we started to move away from Business Portal and Workflow on SharePoint, we added a 'Self Service' user type that is in place of the users that would use Business Portal and the old Workflow applications.

Some information on this user type can be found here:

Difference between Full, Limited and Self Service User Types in User Setup in Microsoft Dynamics GP

Self Service User 'CAL' in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015

This user type is for those users that don't need a 'Full' user type, but only need to perform limited processes, such as enter in requisitions and view them, along with some HRM and Project Accounting functionality.

Web Services and Web Client are not required to use self-service user types nor Workflow, which is built right into the Dynamics GP application since GP 2013 R2.

    Thanks
