TMS : Rate route workbench weight

Hello all,

I'm trying to implement a TMS module for a client and I have an issue regarding the weight using the Rate Route Workbench.

The configuration is as follows:

the item is configured with a net weight of 4 g and a volume of 5 cm³.

The physical dimensions units in the inventory and warehouse management parameters are:

  • Weight unit: g
  • Length unit: cm
  • Volume unit: cm³

I've set up the break master to weight with kg as a unit.

I've also set the unit g as a base unit and kg as a system unit, with a unit conversion between g and kg.

Now, the problem is that when I create a sales order with this item, I enter a quantity of 10 and use rate shop. The system calculates the total weight as 40 g (4 g * 10) and does not perform the unit conversion in the Rate Route Workbench screen.

I expected to see the value 0.04 kg because 40 g = 0.04 kg based on my configuration.

Should the weight field in the Rate Route Workbench perform the unit conversion from the item cards, or does it just inherit the value as it is? Or is there something wrong with my configuration?

I appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mehdi,

Thank you for the confirmation and for sharing your findings.

Glad to hear we're aligned on the behavior. It makes sense to explore standard options first, and if needed, a GAP analysis sounds like the right next step given the business constraints.

If there are no further questions, please feel free to mark this query as answered.

    Best regards,

    Zain

    Hello @Zain Mehmood

    Thanks for your response.
Despite the various configurations applied in the unit conversion and on the item itself, the behavior you confirmed aligns with my findings.

I will explore standard solutions first, although I doubt their feasibility since the inventory unit must be in pieces (pcs) for business flow reasons. If those solutions are not feasible, I will consider addressing the issue with a GAP analysis

    Best rgards,
    Mehdi.

    Hi,

In practice, the Rate Route Workbench will take the total weight directly from what’s calculated in the load planning workbench or the sales order line. From what I’ve observed, the Rate Route Workbench doesn’t automatically convert units — it simply picks up the weight as it’s defined on the load or load line, which in turn comes from the Load Planning Workbench. So, if your load has a total of 40g, that’s exactly what gets passed into the rating logic — without converting to kg, even if your break master is set in kg.

What you can do: if possible, try changing your item’s inventory unit or your warehouse parameter’s weight unit to kilograms if your operation mostly uses kg for transportation. This will help keep things consistent and avoid confusion.

A quick test with a new item or a simple conversion table will update,

    Thanks,
    Zain
