Talent Environment for Testing

Hi all. First post here.

I work for a company that is currently using an on-premises AX 2012 install. We would like to get our HR team started using D365 for Talent. As the one of the resident AX gurus and the only one with both knowledge of and access to our current HR/Payroll software, it has fallen to me to get in there and learn what I can first so I can help document and guide HR through the configuration and setup decision-making processes. The thing is, I don't know how to get started. Is the 60-day demo an option as a mere user? Is there a way to get access to a sandbox environment when we're not currently on any D365 FO or Talent licensing? I saw another thread about sandbox environments, and didn't want to hijack that thread to ask my question, but it seemed like the folks there already had a production environment and were just looking for a sandbox option. I'm looking for a demo/sandbox to get into in advance of turning on a production environment.

    Hi PaladinSteve

    Yep - the 60 day demo should be available for anyone. I spin them up all the time using O365 trials for demo purposes and have never had a problem. I'd suggest that as a good place to start as you also get a dummy data set that can help the learning process. Then check out the various blogs and posts on here for more input. 
    When you get to deploying for real - be aware that you only get two environments per tenant included in your license currently, so you need to think quite carefully about how to use them.

    Excellent! I was a little concerned that the Talent demo might be restricted to certain levels of users. Clicking on the link to the demo for Dynamics for Marketing (just to see where it would take me) kicked me out because I wasn't an MVP or partner.

    Hi,

    if you are a silver or gold partner you can use the internal use licenses and create permanent sandbox and production instances. 

    if you just want a trial, the steps are:

    1. create a office 365 demo account - to get an address such as "admin@[domain].onmicrosoft.com". don't use your business email address for Talent trial. Trust me on this !

    2. go to http://trials.dynamics.com/ and choose Talent and enter the above email address, with the onmicrosoft.com account.

    if you don't find your environment easily, go to https://signin.hr.talent.dynamics.com and login with the office 365 account you created above.

    Hi Nicu,

    Sorry for the long delay responding - other projects have gotten in the way. I met with the HR team today and would like to go this route to set up a trial. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble right out of the gate with step 1 - where do I create the Office 365 demo account to get the email address? I tried a search for it, but all I'm finding is a trial signup that requires a credit card and converts to a paid account at the end of 30 days. Maybe that's what you are referring to? It's just a little unclear since we are a customer, not a partner, and therefore don't seem to have a free option for spinning up accounts. Do you think it might be possible for our IT department to create a dummy user account for us to use? Is having an Office license a requirement to get a trial environment? It would be nice if there was some kind of information on the trials website before you put in your account email address to tell you what to do.
