ReportReport
Posted on by

I am trying to take an existing built in report, copy it and edit it to add in additional fields. I have followed the instructions found on the microsoft dynamics365 for finance and operations, business edition site, but it will not work.  It pulls up a blank word document and will not show the layout of any report I try. I do not even see an option for report wizard that is mentioned in the documents.  What am I missing? I really need to get reporting out of the system.

    Hello,

You can only edit a Word report if one already exists for that specific report.  So if you're creating a copy of a word report for a report that doesn't already have a Word version of the report available, it will be blank.  In this case you would have to edit the RDLC version.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Hi Chris, Thank you for taking time to reply.  We have the reports provided to us when Dynamics was setup. How do I edit the RDLC version?  I am using Dynamics for the first time as it was just setup for our business a few months ago. It's a challenge getting the reporting out of the system how we need to use it.

    Hello,

You can export and edit them in Visual Studio (Report Designer) or Report Builder.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../report-design-view-report-builder

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../bb558708.aspx

Editing is currently limited to the available fields built into the report and\or layout changes.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I do not see any options within Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Business Edition for the Report Design you are showing. How do I get to the Report Builder/Report Designer?

    Hello,

Visual Studio (Report Designer) and Report Builder are each different products\ways of editing RDLC report layouts.  For example, you can download SQL 2016 Report Builder here - www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

There are different options for reporting depending on your needs, Excel and Power BI are also options.  You may need to work with a partner if you need in-depth assistance on customization.

    Thanks,

    Chris
