I was evaluating a client installation for things that could be affecting the overall performance. I was alerted today to a webstore applcation that they have developed on their own. It appears everything written to GP is done via eConnect which is a good thing. However, when I probed further I discovered that they have an inventory synchronization routine that syncs quantities for about 100,000 items. I was not able to see the code but I will have them run SQL Profiler tonight and send me the trace file as they initiate this routine. In this case, their webstore is located out in the cloud someplace. My question is how have others solved the problem of keep inventory in sync in an environment such as this? With my client they tell me it takes hours for this synchroinzation process to take place. My obvious conclusion is that they must be synchronizing every single item regardless of whether the inventory quantity has changed since the last synchronization. Their database is approaching 90GB. I suppose one solution is to set up SQL log shipping to this external server and then the synchronization can occur on the same server out in the cloud. Any other suggestions?
