ISSUE UPGRADING CRM 2015 TO CRM 2016 Service Pack 1 - languagePack version is Invalid.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi all,

i'm new to the forum and i'm here to explain you the strange situation in which we get involved yesterday.

Scenario: we had to upgrade CRM version from 2015 to 2016 Service Pack 1 on a 3 servers deployement (Front End, Back End, DB server). First of all we installed the CRM 2016 package on the FE and BE servers and after the update of the organization all were fine, after that we installed the newer version of Language Pack (ITA in our case) on the FE server, then we have installed the Service Pack 1 package on FE server first, after that the organization was automatically updated to the last version and, EVEN if back end server was not updated, the CRM was navigable and all were fine, so we installed the Service Pack 1 package also on the Back End server and after that, when we browsed the organization from the Deployment Manager, we got the error "languagePack version is Invalid". After multiple tries (we reinstalled the Language Pack from scratch, disabled and reenabled the organization, deleted and reimported the organization, trying really everything) we couldn't fix the problem so our customer had to restore to the 2015 version.

I saw on the internet, in multiple forums, but this error is no explained. If someone has some ideas or has already experienced this error, any help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi, you need to install the language pack before you do the server update, because the server update applies the database updates.

To fix this post update you need to disable and delete the organization, then restore a CRM2015 database backup, then run the import organization routine via deployment manager. This will re-upgrade the database with the correct version of the language pack.

Or, you can disable the organization in 2015 PRIOR to applying the 2016 server update, this will prevent the update from upgrading the database, THEN apply the language pack, then enable and update the organization. In either case you want to update the database after the language pack is installed
