Display Lookup options in another lookup in another entity

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi experts,

Come background info is that when an opportunity is won, it should be automatically converted to a project record and fields mapped. So I created a workflow to do this and it works fine.

Now, we already have an out of the box field in the project form called "project template" which allows the user to choose a project template when creating a project.

Now, my requirement is:

I would like to put a lookup field in the opportunity from which the user can select the "project template" beforehand so that when it is converted into a project, the project template is already assigned.

I'm assuming I have to do scripting. Please guide.

Thanks,

Jon

    Hi Ravi,

I got it and set default view to project template. Can't believe it was this easy.

    Thanks,

    Jon

Yes, i am talking about oppprtunity.

So creare a new field of type lookup and select project entity. Name that field as Project template.

Withinin that field, select the project template view so that it loads only templates.

    Hi Ravi,

That's already available out of the box.

As you said, we can already create a lookup (related to project entity) in the opportunity form to display the projects.

However, I would like to create a lookup in opportunity form to display the available project templates.

    Thanks,

    Jon

Also, note that the Project Template is not an entity, it is project entity but with the field 'Is Template' set as Yes. So while creating a lookup, you need to select the project entity.

    Hi Jon,

Not really. You could create a field in Opportunity entity which would be alookup to project template entity. You can make it mandatory so that it will have to be selected on the opportunity.

Now in your workflow, while creating the project record,, you can add the template from opportunity.

    Hope this helps.
