Adding Rev Exp Deferral, error on version info

Hi,

Our company has a lot of 3rd party and some customizations (and extender); so upgrading is not really an easy option.

Our partner setup the GP even before I got hired and they did not add the RED feature (Rev Exp Deferral).

I am trying to add it now, I kept getting this error

Tried GP Utilities, and it gave me this error:

Checked and corrected the version info of 1045 prodid in the DU000020 table and the DB_Upgrade

The issue persists.

For now, I removed the 1045 from the set file so the users can use GP as usual, but I need some help on where else to look at to resolve this issue.

The GP_LoginErrors has this 2 lines:

Product Name: Revenue Expense Deferrals Database Version: 1821100 Client Version: 1821013
Product Name: Revenue Expense Deferrals Database Version: 1821100 Client Version: 1821013

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Leng

RE: Adding Rev Exp Deferral, error on version info

Are both instances supposed to be on version 18.2.1100 now? Is your instance 2 working just fine at version 18.2.1100?

In the GP documentation, there is a section about installing multiple instances of GP on the same computer.

    Multiple instances of Dynamics GP

You can have multiple instances or installations of Dynamics GP on the same computer. Multiple instances are typically installed on client computers. You may want to use an additional instance of Dynamics GP for testing purposes.

When you install Dynamics GP on a computer with an existing instance of Dynamics GP, you’ll enter a name for the new instance during the installation process. Each instance will be displayed in the Add or Remove Programs control panel. For example, if you entered TEST as an instance name, Dynamics GP (TEST) will be displayed in the Add or Remove Programs control panel. The instance also will appear in the program group for Microsoft Dynamics and in the folder where Microsoft Dynamics is installed. The default folder location is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP$TEST. The first instance of Dynamics GP on a computer is considered the default instance. The default instance of Dynamics GP isn’t assigned an instance name.

I would reinstall GP again following the steps above and when prompted give it an instance name that identifies with Instance 1. Once finished, immediately install the GP 18.3.1100 update on that new instance. This is KB4550323.

Do a backup of all the GP databases for Instance 1 before you run GP Utilities -- and make sure no one is logged in.

Do a backup of all the forms and report customizations you have.

Then run GP Utilities on the instance of the GP client you just installed. When you run GP Utilities, it should prompt you to upgrade.

Then install all your third parties and customizations for the GP client you just installed for Instance 1 -- making sure you point everything to the correct GP client install location that connects to Instance 1.

I've tried to condense this to the key points that I think will get you through, but not seeing anything or knowing your systems, this is just from my experiences.

Please let us know if this works out.

RE: Adding Rev Exp Deferral, error on version info

With multiple SQL instances, you could have different GP versions and need multiple launch folders.  If that is the case, you may also need multiple GP program installs to keep things straight.  (I'm thinking the second SQL Instance is the one that the Add/Remove Programs is pointing to.)  I've run into this before - especially during upgrades - but it wouldn't be efficient to work through it in a forum post.  Perhaps someone else (Joseph?) can offer some more specific instructions.

My recommendation is to contact GP support open a support incident so that you can screenshare with them to walk through the different configurations.

RE: Adding Rev Exp Deferral, error on version info

    Yes, I have.

We have 6 servers for one SQL instance.. we have another 2 servers for another SQL instance... the adding on the 2nd SQL instance GP is working without issues.

This one instance is the issue.

I added the RED thru control panel (change and add/remove feature) on all servers.

When I tried to run GP, the issue happened.

So what I did was to remove the RED from the set file so the users can go on with their work without issues, while I troubleshoot on one server.

I checked the DU000020 and updated the 1045 to have the same versions as that of prodid = 0.

    The issue persists.

I would do this in a test company/test workstation to make sure this all works first. Don't mess with the production client/data before testing.

Also make a backup of all your shared form and report dictionaries (if you have any). There's probably a good chance these are going to need to upgrade too.

The client version of RED is at version 18.2.1013, but the server is at version 18.2.1100. In the GP client, if you go to Help/About, what version of GP are you running right now?

My thought is to try reinstalling the GP 18.3.1100 update on the client machine. This is KB4550323. Then run GP Utilities again.

Have you installed it from Add Programs?

Thanks Lisa... but I actually need RED installed. And I can't seem to make it work.

    Hoping for other suggestions...

This community post should help (assuming RED is not currently in use):  Removing Modules from GP 2010 - Microsoft Dynamics GP Forum Community Forum
