Is it possible to delete field relation links from a table that has the relation set to validate?

Posted on by 2,005

Some behavior I noted in AX yesterday--we were attempting to delete a field relation out of a table that had the relationship set to validate in the relationship properties. I attempted to delete the field relation and it would not let me (it just acted like I had done nothing at all when hitting the delete key.) Even if I set the Validate property to "No" (thus creating a new copy of it on the layer I was in) it would still not let me delete the field relation. However if the object was set not to validate from the beginning, it would let me delete the field relation.

Does anyone know how to get around this or if it is even possible? I need to know for a meeting I am having either this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Thanks.

Brandt

    Hi Grant,

Yes, I knew it was related to the other question. ;-)

I tried to delete this one as well, and I was not able to delete it. I guess the reason is because it is in a lower development layer. When I created the same relation, I can delete this one, regardless the validation is active or not. This is also new to me. Deleting relations is not my daily business ;-)

As said in the previous conversation, we don't know what you can encounter. So I would love to discuss the descision with your solution manager. Maybe you can convince everyone now...

    Andre,

As you have likely guessed, this is exactly related to my previous post about SaveDataPerCompany. What we found was that tables like SpecTrans and DocuRef, which do not validate the relation between themselves and the previously unshared tables allowed us to remove the reference to the DataAreaId in the table relation. However, most of the shared tables that reference the DataAreaId in the previously unshared table will not allow the field relation to be removed. An example would be the VendCategory table after VendTable is set to SaveDataPerCompany = No. VendCategory has a field relationship to VendTable of VendCategory.VendorDataArea == VendTable.DataAreaId. This relationship is on the sys layer, and even if I set the relationship that contains this field relation to not validate, AX won't let me remove it.

If you haven't guessed, I would really like this to not be possible, but I know it is going to come up in the meeting, so if it is possible, I have to be honest about it. My boss is backing me on this one, but I can't leave any openings.

Thanks again. Your help (and the help of others) has been much appreciated in this (at least by me.)

    Hi Brandt,

Perhaps you can tell which table and relation. It would make an answer less generic. You are using AX2012?
