About a year ago, our bank rec system got into a mess and has not been used since(GP10)..We have been doing manual reconcilations since as we had other matters to addres. At this time we wish to start up the bank rec again.. Can w just ignore the current structure and set up a new checkbook etc and start anew??

You certainly can do that. Alternatively you can just force the current checkbook to reconcile and then start over using the same ID. OR you can go into Financial Utilities and remove Bank History from the selected checkbook ID. All sins are forgotten :)
