CRM 365 - Import Managed Solution as an update get "This process cannot be imported because it cannot be updated or does not have a unique name"

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi expert,

I got this error message "This process cannot be imported because it cannot be updated or does not have a unique name" when I import a managed solution to update existing solution.

Googled it, and I found a resolution https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/4020021/after-updating-to-dynamics-365-mismatched-business-process-flow-entity BUT, the resolution doesn't work even at step 1. When you export as 8.1 or 8.0 for existing solution containing the BPF as an unmanaged solution, it gives a warning about "The following components are removed or modified as part of the export" and the BPF is removed, so the exported unmanaged solution doesn't contain the BPF, and opening the solution.xml will not find the BPF.

The article also mentioned about the UniqueName of the source and the target org are different, but I checked the database and both have the same UniqueName, and WorkflowId except WorkflowUniqueId. Both the prefix name are "new_bpf_".

Deleting the workflow and recreate is not an option here because it will delete all existing data that are referred to the BPF.

Can any body know a work around or fix from MS?

Thanks,

Sam

@linhungsam definitely take a look at this article. Our issue isn't this one, but it will give the same error message.

    Don't have a URL yet.

This is because not BPF creates an entity also which should be included in solution.

have a look in this article www.ashishvishwakarma.com/bpf-import-error-this-process-cannot-be-imported-because-it-cannot-be-updated-or-does-not-have-a-unique-name-dynamics-365

Thanks Trenton. Do you know the ticket Url so I can let my team know about this issue?

Not at this time.  We've currently got an outstanding ticket with Microsoft over this and similar issues with BPFs.  Basically, as far as I can tell, BPFs just don't migrate in managed solutions very well. So much so that at this time I would recommend not using them at all if you plan on making frequent deployments from a DEV environment.

Our current workaround is to create a new BPF every time we need to make a change to it, and restricting access to the old BPF. At least until the managed solution updates are fixed.
