Is it possible to change Valuation Method and some other stuff?

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

In the Item Card on an item I have already created, the Valuation Method, Quantity Decimal and Currency Decimal are grayed out.  Is it possible to change these fields at all?  If I want to change it from FIFO Perpetual to LIFO Perpetual, how would I do that?  If I want to change Quantity Decimal from 2 to 0, how would I do that?  Same with Currency Decimal.

Thanks

That makes sense.  And that was my problem.  The decimal place was conflicting with the UoM decimals.  Then I tried the import with the Qty Decimal and set it to default, and it defaults to whatever it is for the UoM Schedule I have assigned. So really, I do not need to import the Qty Decimal since that will come over from the UoM.

    Thanks

    Squared,

The UofM Schedule's Quantity decimals MUST eqal the Item's quantity decimals. If the item's quantity decimal's is changed, by definition, the UofM Schedule will no longer work with it.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

For the valuation method then, you can use the utility specified.  For the quantity decimals, use a SQL update.

I do not have any transactions at all. This is a fresh install of GP.

The issue is the transactions you already have in the system.

When a sales order or purchase order is created, the number of decimals for an inventory item is COPIED to the sales / purchase order line table (SOP10200 / POP10110).  Using the utilities to change the values in the item master will not change the values in these other tables.

You need to remove all transactions that affect these items.

What I am trying to change is the Quantity Decimal.  I asked about Valuation Method just for reference since it was also grayed out.

So my problem is this.  Let's say I import 600 items and we decide to go with 3 decimal places instead of 2.  All 600 items are in the same Class ID.  If I use the System Utilities to change the decimal place for that Class ID, it wipes out my Unit of Measure Schedule.  I thought I would just use Integration Manager to come back over those items and re-add the UoM Schedule, but that is not working.

So now I have the correct decimal place, but none of the items in that Class ID have a UoM.

    Now what?

    Thanks

My two cents - if you're making a wholesale change of valuation method, make sure you check with your external accountants to see what tax impact this may create.  Of course, if this is to just correct an item or items that were setup incorrectly, you can throw my two pennies out the window . . .

No transactions in the system at the time.  I'm just getting my imports ready for next years Go Live date.

Also, if you have any unposted Receiving transactions the change valuation routine will give you an error that it will not perform the valuation change because there are edit items still pending. You must post all receivers.

    Squared,

Goto Tools-->Utilites-->Inventory you will find option to change Valuation Method,Qty Decimal and Currency Decimal. Need to check financial effect when you change Valuation Method or Decimal place.

Recommend to do it in Test Envrionment and then on production.

    Thanks
