Can no longer connect to GP from client

Posted on by 75,730

Client rebooted their server after months and no they cannot log in to GP from any workstation. The GP client on the server works fine.

Going into the ODBC administrator you get this message on the workstations.

[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

There are no listings in the event viewer of either the workstation or the server.

Any clues as to what may have happened?

Try disabling the firewall in the server and see that it works or not.

Check the server and GP ports

Check the SQL server Manager because its a high possibility that TCP/IP could have been altered.

Create your small setup of odbc and test your connection with SQL and then check weather it works or not.

If still problem persists, pls post some snaps of it.Will love ot help u if i can.mykfcexperience

Disable the firewall on the server and see if that works

I want to say that when TLS 1.0 is disabled, SQL Server can then be setup to use TLS 1.2 for communications.

We recently published a blog around TLS 1.0 disabling and Dynamics GP

    Thanks

I do not know what IT did but when they turned off TLS 1.0 and enabled TLS 1.2 this is what broke ODBC. I had them only change the registry setting for TLS and nothing to do with .NET FW and now ODBC works again.

    Hi Richard,

i guess first of all you have to see if the error is being caused by the server itself or the SQL!

    - can you ping on the server and through the GP ports?

    - did you check the SQL server configuration Manager if the client configuration of the TCP/IP had been changed and disabled

    - can you create a test odbc and test the connection with the SQL see if that connects rather than your standard odbc setup

    hope that gets us somewhere!
