We use Dynamics 365 primarily for sales and service. Our sales distribution model includes a reseller component, i.e. we sell our products via resellers. Out of the box there doesn't seem to be anything that allows us to associate a lead or an opportunity with a specific reseller so we added a field to both entities called 'reseller' which looks up the account entity, so resellers are created as 'accounts' and can be added to leads and opportunities while leaving the actual account as the end customer.
This works fine until we try to use associated leads and associated opportunities features for the actual end customer. The leads and opportunities don't show up, they do however show as associated with the reseller.
I was wondering if anyone else has had the same situation and what you may have done to get over it? I'm thinking the simplest way is to create a new entity called 'Reseller' rather than use the account entity. That's not ideal for us but is manageable. Any comments / thoughts?
