When will user be given a "missing" error for a mandatory Dimension code for a G/L?

In Business Central I will be making all income statement G/L accounts be set up with a mandatory code for posting.

When will users be notified that it's missing or is required for the G/L? For example, I submit a PO for approval and don't assign a cost center dimension code. Will the approval workflow still initiate? When will we find out it's missing the dimension code?

I have the same question (0)

Typically you are given the error when trying to post to that G/L account.

If you want to incorporate it in approval workflows - what you can do is setup your workflow condition to have the dimension value populated. Meaning that the approval request is only sent if a dimension value is populated. And then create another workflow where the workflow condition doesn't include a dimension value(s), but this workflow response only has one line where the user gets a error message to populate the dimensions.

My concern with this is if we setup the workflow condition to have dimension value populated, there's a chance the person uses a G/L that wouldn't need a dimension code. What happens then?

I agree with Valentin BC will check missing dimension when user posts. this is the design logic of BC, which never check anything before posting. This offers lots of conveniences to user but will cause issue in your scenario. Educate user is a good approach. Personally, I see setting up workflow for dimensions an overkill. BC workflows aren't that great either

Hi, if it is General Journals, you can try the Background Error Check feature. This will show error message before posting
