Set different field to a lookup on form (not primary field)

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have one entity called Invoices.
Primary field on this entity is Invoice Number (the name of the custom entity).

I need this solution: whenever user opens form he or she should be able to see value of the field Invoice External Number inside lookup field, not Invoice Number.

I am using classic web interface.

Can you use a quick view form to display the required field on the lookup?

    Unfortunately this is not possible.
In the past one could move another field to the first position of the lookup view to change what field would show up in the lookup. However, doing so broke some internal processes so this behavior was patched away.
