How To Assigning Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM Sales Professional License to Existing Trial User

Hello,

I was using Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM Sales Trial with the following user account:

User: Erp@fmsuae.onmicrosoft.com

The 30-day Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM trial period has now expired, and I would like to purchase a Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM Sales Professional license to continue using the same account and start the actual CRM implementation.

The Procurement Department will purchase the following license:

  • License: Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM Sales Professional

  • Quantity: 1 User

  • Validity: 3 Months

I would like to know the correct steps to assign the purchased CRM license to the existing user account (Erp@fmsuae.onmicrosoft.com) that was used during the trial period.

My goal is to continue using the same CRM environment without creating a new user and start working on the CRM implementation, including master data upload, system configuration, customization, and testing.

Could you please provide the step-by-step procedure to:

  1. Assign the purchased Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM Sales Professional license to the existing user.

  2. Transition from the trial CRM access to the purchased license.

  3. Verify that the user has the required CRM permissions and access after assigning the license.

  4. Confirm that the existing CRM environment, data, configurations, and customizations will remain available.

I would appreciate clear guidance to complete this process quickly, as I need to start the CRM implementation activities and avoid any delay due to license activation or user configuration.

Thank you.

Yes, The key point is: if the existing trial environment is still available, you can assign the paid Sales Professional license to the same user and continue using that environment. Microsoft confirms that organization data is preserved when switching licenses.
    Steps
    Procurement purchases
    Dynamics 365 Sales Professional
    1 user
    3 months
    Assign the license
Go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center
    Users → Active users
    Select Erp@fmsuae.onmicrosoft.com
Licenses and apps / Manage product licenses
    Select Dynamics 365 Sales Professional
    Save.
    Check the existing environment
Go to Power Platform Admin Center
    Environments
Confirm the existing Dynamics 365/Dataverse environment is still present and not deleted/expired.
Check the user in Dynamics 365
    Open the existing environment.
Go to Settings → Users + permissions → Users.
    Find Erp@fmsuae.onmicrosoft.com.
Confirm the user is enabled and assign the required security role, such as Sales Professional or your required custom security role. A license alone does not provide data permissions; the user also needs an appropriate security role.
    Open Sales
    Sign out/in again.
Open the existing Dynamics 365 Sales environment.
Verify your existing tables, records, solutions, configurations and customizations.
    Very important
If the trial environment itself has already been deleted, simply buying the license will not restore that environment. Microsoft states that expired trial environments can be automatically deleted.
So before creating a new environment, check Power Platform Admin Center and confirm that the original environment still exists.

Out of scope for the BC commenter — this is Dynamics 365 Sales licensing and tenant admin, nothing to do with Business Central.
