NAV2013R2- User custom window setting for new user account

When starting NAV2013R2, we assigned the default profile ID (such as "Order Processor NC" or "Accounting Manager") to out client users based on each one's business role.  The setting is done by the following path.

Company/Departments/Administration/Application Setup/RoleTailored Client/User Personalization.

However, by default, there are still a lot of icons or menus which our client does not use the features (e.g., approval feature, credit cards, warehouse modules, etc). In order to simplify, I removed those unnecessary icons or menus for each user account prior to release the system.

Now, the client orders additional NAV licenses and they are requesting to setup same user layout which we deployed for them. I looked at admin module if there is a copy feature to carry same GUI we customized to new user account, but I am unable to find.

Is there any way to handle this matter without coding?

    Hi Tharanga,

I was able to configure the default user profile and was able to apply the changes to all users who has same profile ID. That was so helpful. Thank you so much!

If you just remove the UI elements then it will only affect to the one particular user and if you assign the same user profile to another user then you have to go through that pain again.

So the best thing is you need to open the Dynamics NAV in the config mode for a one particular profile and remove or add UI elements which related to selected profile. Once that is been done your profile is ready. You can reuse it with any user and you just have to assign it to the users and no need to remove UI elements again.

You open the Microsoft Dynamics NAV in configuration mode and remove all the unwanted icons and buttons from the user interface. This is totally based on the user role.

Refer below link on how to open NAV in config mode :

    Hi Sunny2014,

there is the possibility to configure a specific profile

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../dd354992(v=nav.71).aspx

If you modify the profile using the configuration mode, the new configuration will be available for all the users related to that specific profile.

    Best regards

    Hi Rabin,

Yes, I am talking about user customization.

As you may know, in AX2012R2/R3, by default, there is a feature that we can copy personalization setting from one user account to another user account so that each user does not have to configure customized pages or fields, and as system admin, this way is very helpful to save our time whenever new user account setting is requested. I was expecting similar feature in NAV, but it seems there is no option to handle this issue in NAV by default.

Since End user does not know which feature they do not use or they should hide unnecessary menu or icons, I have to do for them before releasing new user account.

    Thank you for your comments.

    Hi Sunny,

If you are talking about User Customization then you are following the right path... Its frustrating but is related to user individually so you have to carry out the process for each user individually...

    err.png

But if you want to control The Permission for users then you can always use "Permission Sets", Assign the related permission and let then customize what ever they want to customize...

RE: NAV2013R2- User custom window setting for new user account

    Hi Rabin,

Thank you for your reply. Let me explain the situation.

The client is new to NAV and we implemented NAV2013R2. (It is NOT they have upgraded from previous version of NAV).

I did not delete the role ID on Rolecenter Section. What I did is as follows:

    1.Create new NAV user account

    2. Assign default role ID - accounting manager - to new user account via Company/Departments/Administration/Application Setup/RoleTailored Client/User Personalization.

    3. I login with new user account in order to customize the menu, remove unnecessary icons which they do not use the feature or modules.

    4. Reset user account password

    5. Release new user account to the client.

That was performed for the existing user account. Now, the client adds additional license (same NAV2013R2) to add more concurrent users. For this, I have to go through the steps above for each user account which is time consuming.  Do you have any idea to handle this issue?

    Hi Sunny,

If you are talking about Rolecenter Section that you have deleted then you might have to replace the section from the default page. It is nothing to do with the code.

The best option i think is to replace the page with default pages that was there before you deleted. It will also save time and work. And then upgrade...

But i do not think Upgrading Licence is related to the deleted sections. Upgrade should work fine...
