Decimal Seperator does not follow Regional Settings when using WebClient

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

The numpad of a keyboard can come with a "," (comma) or a "." (dot). When using Windows Client in Dynamics NAV or in Dynamics 365 Business Central (OnPrem), this is not an issue. Here we are following Regional Settings configured on the user's workstation.

E.g. of two different layouts:

In for example French, German or Dutch keyboard layouts, a "," is used while in US keyboards a "." is used. This generates an issue when working with WebClient in all supported releases of Dynamics NAV and Dynamics 365 Business Central.

A very simple repro showing the issue can be found here:

  1. install any Dynamics NAV / Dynamics 365 BC OnPrem release
  2. switch My Settings via the Gear to French settings (Region), Language can be left to ENU
  3. start WebClient and add a Sales Order with any item and add a discount in the lines in 10,5% via Numpad that does have a ".
Result:
Error message about invalid decimal field
The product group came back with the following answer if this issue does qualify for hot fix material:

We don’t have such setting in Business Central and we don’t have any logic to treat or transpose NumPad dot key for numeric data fields when your selected OS keyboard doesn’t match the regional settings selected in Business Central and so we will be looking at this as a future improvement (meaning post October).

Alternatively to a predefined keyboard (like the Belgian one below) you may want to use a keyboard mapper software like this one from us:

For instance you can create an international layout based on US but with comma as a NumPad dot and it works in Business Central web client as well as on any other website (as this problem is not with Business Central but with web browsers being much simpler than Windows or Office).

That means that this issue is something we would like to improve and it is on our radar for a future release of Dynamics 365 Business Central / Dynamics NAV.

Thank you.
