Trying to post an entry within more 2 years from our current open year

Posted on by 75

Hello

I am trying to post an entry into 2012 when our current open year is 2014 and system sent this error message:" You cannot post more than one year prior to the first day of the earliest open year". How can we solve this problem? is possible to re-open a year that was previously closed?

In General Ledger, transactions are classified either as open or history. When you close the year, journal entries of the current year are moved to history. In this essence, when you remove journal entries from history, you are deleting these journals.

This actually has nothing to do with posting one year prior to the first day of the earliest open year. Even if you remove history, you still can not proceed with this type of posting.

My only recommendation is to open a ticket with Microsoft to do it correctly. Setting a plan for upgrade is a must to take advantage of the various new features including the reverse year end close one.

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

Hello Mohmoud, thank you so much for your prompt answer. I am following your instructions and I have already posted a support ticket to FMT. I really appreciate your help.

Additionaly, I am reading an option into GP 10 version that allow us to remove historical year. Don't you think that we can use this feature to solve our problem?

The path to find it, as follows:

Mycrosoft Dynamics GP - Toos - Utilities - Financial - Remove History

In this menu we can select the year, decide to print or remove and specify ranges of entries or dates. It looks like the option that we are looking for but I would like to hear from your before doing anything.

    Kind Regards

Mahmoud is absolutely correct. Before GP 2013 R2 the only way to be able to reopen the GL years is through the backend and Microsoft has a service which can do this for you.

In versions prior to Dynamics GP 2013 R2, there is no out of the box method to re-open closed year, and the warning message you receive is by design, here is the KB article 851093

As I can see, you are on GP 10, which means that there is no way to do this from the application. If this is an urgent case which definitely need to be done, you will have to open a support ticket with Microsoft to get it done the right way.

The nice thing is that in Dynamics GP 2013 R2, a new feature was introduced to Reverse Historical Year

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,
