How do you assign a Team members CAL in Dynamics 365 for on-premise?

Posted on by

I can't see the 'Team members CAL' listed as an option under Settings, Security, User, license type.

These are the ones listed in build number 8.2.0.749:

Professional, Administrative, Basic, Device Professional, Device Basic, Essential, Device Essential, Enterprise, Device Enterprise, Sales, Service, Field Service, Project Service

Reading the licensing guide for Dynamics 365 https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh699677.aspx:

'Dynamics 365 simplifies licensing of business applications. The primary licensing is by named user subscription. The Dynamics 365 user subscriptions classify users into two types. One user type is a "full user" and the other is a "light user".'

My understanding was that there would be fewer license types (but with some upgrade rights granted from e.g. CRM 2015):

Microsoft Dynamics 365 (On-Premises) Sales CAL
Microsoft Dynamics 365 (On-Premises) Customer Service CAL
Microsoft Dynamics 365 (On-Premises) Team Members CAL
Microsoft Dynamics 365 (On-Premises) Field Service CAL

But back to the question: if I've purchased a Team member CAL how do I assign that to a user?

Thanks

David

Thanks. Googling around I found this: www.tt-exchange.org/.../dynamics-365-team-members-premises-user-cal

It states "The Dynamics 365 for Team Members (On-Premises) user CAL provides a user with basic or read-only access to Dynamics 365 (On-Premises) Server from any device."

That would mean you could assign a Read-only or Basic user type, with this license. Although it kind of makes sense, I'm not sure how reliable this source is.

I've had a support incident with Microsoft open since 12th April and so far they haven't given me an answer....

I'm certain it's a bug but getting this acknowledged as such is proving tricky.

    Hi,

Did you maybe figure this out? I'm having the same doubt. The team member license is very reasonably priced and meets the requirements my customer has, but I don't know how to map it to CRM users.
