We have a new company we have set up in Dynamics GP 10.0 and they are taking over all the projects from our old company that was already in Dynamics GP 10.0. It is a different company so no other details would be the same except the projects. Is there a way to transfer that data rather than to have to rekey it and rebuild each project from scratch?-especially the inventory in each project.

There would be four steps to this migration:
1. Create all the setup variables in the new company
2. Load all the tombstone data for the projects
3. Update the accounting record for the new chart of accounts and mapping to project/cost category
4. Migrate the transactions TS, EE, ML, INv, Purchases to the new company.
The migration should be well documented as your auditors will review the migration and will rely on the documented mappings.
Some of these tasks are easily handled through SQL and the remaining tasks are best entered using a macro pulling from spreadsheets. This latter strategy maintains the business logic and alleviates a lot of the 'table filling' and subsequent relational problems. Hoping your fiscal years are still open.
The macros tend to take a long time to run but the results are worth the wait.
Knowing that you mentioned your IT staff is not familiar with GP, this is a complex task and the skill of the migrator is a key success factor.

Thank you for your response. This would be appending to a company that has just not used the project module before. I was afraid it would require scripts. None of the IT people where I work now have ever worked with GP so I don't think they will be able to handle the script. You would not have an example of the scripting you used? You asked about the GL accounts-they are different in the new company but the cost categories can be set up to match. Again, thank you for your quick response.
You need to identify all the tables in PA that are part of a Project Setup(.ie. Budgets, Fees, Inventory, etc) This is no easy task. I have done this before through the use of SQL scripts. You will also need customers and vendors. I take it there are many projects you wish to transfer? What about your GL accounts and cost categories? Is this new company starting from scratch or do you need to append this information to already existing data?
