How do I configure smartlists to export accounting figures (monetary amounts), into excel?

Posted on by 220

When I export into excel, any accounting numbers that have a comma in (eg. R2,330.00), cant be converted to a currency amount in excel, unless I take the comma out.

Now when I am doing a general ledger for year end, I dont want to do this, its too time consuming.

How do I configure the export options into excel from the smartlist?

So making the change to the Dex.ini file is a one time job, then copy and paste onto each of the users drives.  As an Admin you should have access to each drive, and therefore, you only update one of the files to make one user work, then copy the working result to all other users.

Know having said this - it only works if all the users that you are adjusting have access to the same report dictionary locations.

Let me know if this works for you Muhammad.

    This works Thanks Buddy..

But if i am having more than 10 user then i have to repeat this procedure in all user's gp. Is there any alternate?  so that it will apply to all users automatically.

    Hi,

I have the same problem because in Peru the currency symbol is 'S/.' it takes the subtotal value as string and it takes a long to convert just to get totals. I tried both features in Dex.ini but nothing. Does they apply for all versions of GP? I am using the 11.00 SP2 version.

    Hi Barry,

As Ian already mentioned, you can use ExplorerFormatCurrency=FALSE switch for formatting foreign amount in excel

However,  this switch does not work in case of Analytical Accounting smartlists

    Hi Barry,

Add the following line to your dex.ini file (located in the GP application/data folder).

    ExplorerFormatCurrency=FALSE

This will cause Smartlists to export all currency amounts as amounts instead of as a string (which is probably what you are getting because of the R currency symbol).

    Best regards,

    Ian.

    Hello Barry

You can try giving SmartlistEnhancedExcelExport=TRUE in your Dex.ini file and then see if the export for numbers works fine.

However, take a look at this article below by Leslie, which explains some pitfalls using this Enhanced Export functionality.

    Hope this helps.
