Dynamics 2017 Database Capacity

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi Friends,

I recently introduced MS Dynamics 2017 to our Company, and its been around 5-6 Months fully Live.
We Do use All the components Excepts the HR module. Few customization is also done

Mainly Production, Finance, Inventory, Purchasing and Marketing.

The Database size is increasing Rapidly like for a day 400MB, Current database size is 11GB already.

i have scheduled 4 backups for a day.

I need to  know is,

  • Is it normal for this kind of database capacity in 6months of implementation, and daily capacity increment like this?
  • a schedule backup take 30min now and the system hangs at that time, is this also normal?

    Hello Shez,

You can implement as your weekend routine to delete NAV logs and shrink the SQL database as well as the SQL log.  So far my NAV2013 db is 180GB with no problems.

Below is a link with more info.

I rechecked the table data usage in SQL. and i came across the CHANGE LOG,  which is eating my storage. currently the change log is 7GB Reserved capacity.

Is there a way to limit this and over right the change log in a specific capacity rage, like 1GB always overwrite in the space.

    Hi Shez,

Might be normal... depending on the number of users, transactions... if your customizations implies any kind of BLOB storage...

Would you mind to post here more details about your scenario?

Here you'll find some tips and considerations for your SQL: msdn.microsoft.com/.../installation-considerations-for-microsoft-sql-server

    Hope this helps :-)

    BR.
