Two active BOM for one product

Hi dears

we have two subcontractors for a product (lets call it product 01) . the product 01 has different boms for the two subcontractors. we have created a site for outsourcing (lets call it Site3) and also created some virtual warehouses for subcontractors.

How we can have two production orders for the product to be produced by subcontractors at the same time in site3? system does not let us to have two active bom for a product in same site.

Hello Yadegari.

It is not possible to activate more than one active bom version with the same site, warehouse, date from, date to and quantity but you can approve more than one bom.

Depending on how you create the production orders (manually, based on sales order lines,...) you have options without changing your setup.

You can choose the correct bom during the manual production order creation (Field "BOM Number").

If you create the production orders based on sales order lines you will find a field "SUB-BOM" in the tab "product". This field is usually empty ==> the system will use the activated BOM. But if you define a specific (approved) bom in this field the related production order will use this information.

If you are able to change the setup and you want to have more than one approved and activated boms you have to change a least one field in the bom version area. If I have to setup something like this usually I define one warehouse for each subcontractor. In this case you have to enter the correct warehouse during production or sales order line creation.

We are using Demand forecast for production order creation. I checked the "demand forecast lines" form, in the form we have "Use specific BOM" field. I tried your second solution, but it didn't work properly.

I just created two lines in the demand forecast lines form for one product (product01). the first one with an approved and active bom in site3 and warehouse1 and the second line with an approved bom in site3 and warehouse2 (not activated because does not let us to have two active bom for a product in same site). the warehouses are virtual warehouses for the two subcontractors.

After running the master plan, system doesn't create proper planned production orders and only considers non-active bom in calculations!

Hi Hamid.

I tested your approach in my contoso demo system in USMF.

on article with 2 boms (different articles inside)

BOM 1 with D0001

BOM 2 with D0002

after this I created 2 forecast lines

with BOM1 and qty = 500

with BOM2 and qty = 200

after this I run the MRP and checked the net requirements. I got two planned production orders

planned production order 1 with D0001

and planned production order 2 with D0002

So from my point of view it is ok.

Hi Christoph

I tried again and got the same wrong results. I found something in coverage group that i hadn't considered before. in coverage group there is a button named "Use the specified BOM or formula version". if it is set to YES, system considers non-activated BOM/formula version. so I changed it to yes, and got two planned batch orders for the two subcontractors.
