Repurposing a Dimension

Posted on by
Hello,

We would like to repurpose a shortcut dimension that is not being utilized.  This dimension was created during our implementation, but is not being utilized.  However, we DO have some entries that have a value assigned in this field.  I'm trying to understand our options to accomplish this.  Is it as simple as changing the dimension code and name and adding the new values to the existing ones?  Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, it's not simple. The standard Dimension corrections function only supports G/L Entries.
In other words, you cannot add or modify new dimensions for any posted document.

    Hope this helps as well.
    Thanks.

If the already assigned values do not mess up the new values, then You can just Rename the existing Dimension Code, and add new values.

Other option is to create a totally new Dimension Code, add the needed values, and provide it in General Ledger Setup as Shortcut dimension (replace the previous dimension code here).

if the previously assigned values were not correct, or don't mean anything now, You can use the Correct Dimension tool - to clear these assigned values or change them to the new dimension code, and afterwards the old dimension code can be deleted.
