Issue Reconciling Cashbook Subledger to GL

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi all,

I am having issues reconciling my cashbook Subledger to GL, subsequent I also have a variance when Reconciling the bank statement in this case the Adjusted Book Balance is greater than the Adjusted Bank Balance.

Is there a way to post entries into the Subledger without affecting the GL or the Cashbook in order to correct the difference.

And is it correct to post a an adjusting General Journal posting to eliminate the Book and Bank Balance differences?

Adjusted Bank Balance $ 23,530.56 (same as Bank Statement)

Adjusted Book Balance $696,563.70
SL Ending Balance            $ 117,074.69
GL Ending Balance           $ 178,761.12

    RE: Issue Reconciling Cashbook SL-GL

    Hi Kyle,

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Can you elaborate on how one can post a bank transaction without posting through the G/L, is there specifics steps that needs to be followed?

My mind must be shot for the day as I can't put the acronym 'SL' to anything but assuming you're referring to the bank rec module...

Is there a way to post entries into the SL without affecting the GL or the Cashbook in order to correct the difference.

    - Yes.  Try a bank deposit (positive or negative) OR a bank transaction whilst debiting and crediting the same account OR a bank transaction and NOT posting through to G/L

And is it correct to post a an adjusting General Journal posting to eliminate the Book and Bank Balance differences?

     - Situational but sure.  You're ultimately left w/ 2 options, update bank rec or update G/L.  During the reconciliation process, there is the "adjustments" window that'd let you adjust your bank balance.  You obviously want to track down what's causing your outage before making adjustments...

One tool that I always recommend is the reconcile to GL tool under Financial>>Routines>>Reconcile to GL.  With this tool, you can pick your cash account, your checkbook, & then view everything that hit either side to look for variances or exceptions.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Kyle
