Loading old database to new company

Posted on by 3,125

Good day,

License = Microsoft Dynamic GP 10.0 BE.

Due to several headaches it's been decided to create our original company but i'm sure i'm missing steps: so i would like to load the old database (just containing initial statements and inventory amounts) to the new company but it indicates on both SQl and loading it up through Dynamics that the database belongs to another company so i can't load it.

I did manage to load the financial accounts and inventory catalog using  (copy company 10.0V2) but i need to help out the account print the financial statements of january because he hasn't prepared because there are too many manual input problems caused by the previous users.

    Hi Mayra,

I believe this error is because the database files still exist on the hard drive.

I really think you need to uninstall GP and make sure none of the databases related to GP still exist on the SQL server nor on the hard drive.

Follow the instructions in KB 878449 to the letter and you will have a successful transfer! Do you have access to CustomerSource?

The instructions in KB 878449 are really quite good, I have used it many times. I would be delighted to speak with you if you think it could help. My phone number is below. You have taken on  a big job, I am glad this forum has been a help to you.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Good day Ms. Vail.

I tried the other procedure of first restoring the databases both GPEA and Dynamics and i got an error when running the GP utilities and connecting the Dynamics database

La siguiente instruccin SQL produjo un error:
     create database [DYNAMICS]         ON          (NAME = 'GPSDYNAMICSDat.mdf',             FILENAME = 'C:\Archivos de programa\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\GPSDYNAMICSDat.mdf',             SIZE = 50,             FI

    Good day Ms. Vail,

Thank you very much for your patience. Theoretically it's not a language barrier but more trying to translate all the functionalities of GP from English to Spanish and vice versa.

These are the steps summed up of what i did.

1.- Installed SQL on new server (SERVER B)

2.- Installed Microsoft GP 10 SP3 on server

3.- Ran GP utilities and created the same name of company as SERVER A on SERVER B

4.- Got out of GP, restarted SERVER B and then started SQL and tried restoring database GPEAC(our company database) onto GPEAC on new SERVER B.

    Consults:

I'm currently trying out the point you suggested to first restore GPEAC database, I don't know if i have to also restore Dynamics and TWO database and then proceed to install microsoft GP 10 SP3.

    Please advice

    Hi Mayra,

I know this has been kind of painful because of our language differences. Hurray to you for your diligence! Reading back through this thread I find that I'm not sure of what you are trying to accomplish.

If you want to move your databases to a new server, that process is well established and available. One step that is overlooked by many is that you need to move the databases over BEFORE you install GP on the target server.

I'm probably being a dope here, but please give us another summary of what exactly you are wanting to do.

    I apologize for my confusion.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hello Mariano,

I apologize for no clarity is that i'm having trouble identify alot of issues that are ocurring.

For example in SERVER B i installed SQL and Microsoft Dynamics GP 10 but i tried restoring the data base and it originally it had worked but i unistalled it and installed it again and now it doesn't even want to load the SQL.back because it says that i contains a different set of data than the one on the current database.

So entered GP but if i try to check up on anything i have to redo the original configuration that my previous partner did which is the setup of money = lempiras

    Mayra,

I am not certain what you mean when you say "money specifications", but yes, you certainly need to load all the dictionaries too to be able to access the application and the data. You may do that by installing from the Feature Pack image on CustomerSource or PartnerSource, depending on your access type.

    Good Mariano,

Yes thank you very much for your help but the information was helpful to a certain extent because i was able to load all the transactions from the SERVER A to SERVER B through SQL but certain specifications like money specifications, o has mentioned previously I need to load the dictionaries of Dynamics.

Then you should be using the instructions I provided to you before.

    Good day Richard,

I'm using a different server altogether. Could you please advice?

Re: Loading old database to new company

    Hi again,

I haven't looked at the articles Mariano has on his list, you will probably learn a lot by glancing through his article suggestions.

I just re-read your question and noticed that something 'indicates the database belongs to another company'. Does the .mdf file in fact exist on the server you are trying to use? Another thing, even if the database is different, is another company already using the company ID you are trying to assign (check the SY01500 table in the DYNAMICS database). Also, Richard asked some great questions. If you jot down the answers to those questions I think you'll get a more precise answer.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
