Error trying to add a new application database - SL 2011

Trying to add an additional application database - same system database. I am able to select the advanced button , give it the name I want , select the correct DB server database and log file locations. When I click CREATE I can select the correct System DB from the list. Almost immediately though I get the following error:

"soldb Error -1:Object reference not set to an instance of an object" and nothing happens.

Running SL 2011 FP1, SQL Server 2008R2. I am not running the Database Maintenance application on the DB server itself - I am running from a separate workstation.

I tried doing this on my TEST DB server (SQL 2012) yesterday and while I got this same error twice, it eventually worked. Not sure what is going on. Ideas anyone?

Sorry I meant to update this last week but then the holidays...

I figured this out. Someone from IT turned on compression on the drive where I was trying to create the log files. There were other log files in that drive/folder that were there before they changed that setting which have been OK but when I tried to create new log files SQL didn't like that. SQL does not like compression. Once I turned that setting off the DB Maint ran as expected.

Create a blank DB and restore from another DB.
