GP User setup without the 'sa' account - password not working

User is set up with security roles in GP for managing users, company access, and role assignments. Their SQL login has SQL Role SecurityAdmin and in each GP database has DYNGROUP, db_accessadmin and db_securityadmin roles assigned. If they change a user password for another user, the user isn't able to use it unless the admin user that set the password was on the same workstation/terminal server when they reset the password.  Is there something in the ODBC DSN that is part of the password encryption process now?

    Kirk is correct...….the encryption on GP login passwords (all except for the sa login) is based on the machine and ODBC DSN being used to connect Dynamics GP to the SQL Server/GP databases.

    Specifically it uses the server name for the SQL instance from the DSN and the requirement is that all DSNs on all machines should be identical, otherwise it can lead to users being able to login to GP on one machine, but not another. Once the user's password is reset on machine 2, they can then login to GP on that machine, but then find they no longer can login to GP on the first machine where they were able to prior.

    ODBC DSNs should be setup as per KB 870416.

    Yes the ODBC DSN is part of what is used to encrypt the password. I know this has been true since at least GP 10 but likely much longer. For ease of management I recommend using the same DSN organization wide.
