Printing from Crystal 'print preview' Drill-down prints the ENTIRE report in SL 2011

In version 7.0 the client was able to:

1. Print a report to the screen

2. Expand the Group Tree, or double-click in the report to drill into particular records

3.  Click Print to print just that page, just the records he had drilled into which were currently displayed.

In version SL 2011, the same steps print the ENTIRE report, sometimes hundreds of pages.

I can't find any information documenting this "feature" or this change in the summary of changes or 'what's new' documents.

Does anyone know a solution or work-around which would allow printing of single records or groups within a report in this manner?

We have found that 'Export' works as before, and will send just the records in focus to Excel, just like in 7.0.

Thanks!

    Hi Jeff,

SL 2011 SP2 uses the same version of Crystal as previous versions of SL 2011.  The new version of Crystal  introduced these issues.  There isn't anything that can be fixed in SL as far as I know.  I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Was a solution to this issue ever discovered?

It appears to still be an issue with SL 2011 SP2.

    Thank you

    Hi Laura,

Thanks for updating this post with the bug number.  I didn't drill down far enough in my testing.  There are quite a few issues resulting from the differences in the two versions of Crystal.  Unfortunately, most of them cannot be corrected by Dynamics SL and must be addressed within Crystal.

    Hello Carolyn,

Thanks for testing that for me.

We ended up opening a MS case and were told this was bug 24122.  I understand it is an open (not rejected) bug in Crystal and MS is waiting on Crystal Reports to provide the fix.

If you want to test again, consider the idea that after you drill in, you might have several pages you wish to print.  For example, I could drill into a particular customer on the Aging which might constitute 2-3 pages.  (You'll know when you are there because the titles typically disappear when drilling down in this manner.)

On the GL Detail you might expand "Liabilities" then page down a few times, then on the right side, double-click on a particular account.  You could get one or more pages, and because the titles are gone at that point, you may not know which pages to print.  In 7.0 we would just click print and limited pages would print out, without titles, just as it appeared on screen.  In SL 2011 the entire report prints, titles and all.

    Thanks,

    Laura Barber

    Hi Laura,

I print previewed the GL Trial Balance in SL 2011 SP1.  Using the tree on the left, I selected the portion of the report for my budget ledger.  I then clicked the Print Report icon.  The Print subscreen then appears.   I then have a choice to print all pages or just the page I am currently on but I need to specify the page I wish to print. My install of 7.0 seems to work the same way.  I need to indicate which page I wish to print.

Am I correctly testing your issue?
