Goals by Industry

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I'm new to goals, so please forgive me if this is a rookie question...

I have created a new custom filed named "Industry Type".  This is populated by the different industries we serve: Medical, Legal, Energy etc.  It is a required field that our sales team must select.

I need to setup a goal for this.  For example, in 2017 we would like to have $1MM in sales for Medical, $2MM in sales for Legal etc.  I have figured out how to do this for a sales person, but can't seem to find anything even close.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Jeff

You can achive it by using Rollup Query, refer to : community.dynamics.com/.../goals-management-creating-a-goal-using-a-rollup-query

    RE: Goals by Industry

Hi Jeff, thanks for reaching out.

You would do this by starting with a new rollup query for each industry. Set entity to Opportunity, then create an query to get the desired list of records you would want to count in this goal. Then create a new goal metric for each industry based on money and save (don't close). After saving in the command bar along the top click on "Rollup Fields" tab. Now add a new rollup field for each data point in this industry you want to track. For ex. tracking actual money, and another record for estimated money. Set the fields on the rollup field form.

Now create your goal for each industry and use the new industry based metric. Scroll to the bottom of the goal form and you will see "Record set for Rollup" and change that to "All" this will count all records not just specific to the owner of the goal. Select the Rollup Query you created in the first step.

Now you will have a goal by industry irrespective of owner. You will need to repeat this for each industry you want to track.

Verify if this answered your question. Have a great day!
