Hi Community,

In Business Central when I go to Document Capture Activities > Then in Document Journal I select a document > Click PDF File from the Document menu > It opens the Document in a viewer but I want to Download it directly instead of viewing.

I have changed the PDF setting in my Chrome browser to make it download instead of view but NO JOY?|

What am I missing any ideas?

Appreciate your support.

Thanks,
Zeb

    Hi Zeb

Document capture is an ISV add on so it might be better reaching out to Continia support.

You should have the option to download the PDF from the preview.

    Kind Regards

I found the solution by exposing the Download PDF file through Customization :) Thanks everyone.

Hi, Since this is not a standard BC feature, if you need to add the feature, you need to contact the partner who customized it directly.

    Thanks

    Hello Zeb,
This is most likely not a Chrome setting issue; the PDF File action in Business Central/Document Capture is probably calling the BC PDF viewer/preview behavior, so the browser is only doing what BC tells it to do. Microsoft’s current behavior for PDF attachments is that PDFs can open directly inside the Business Central web client, and the user can then download from the viewer; direct download only happens when the action is built as a Download action instead of a View/Preview action. So unless Continia/Document Capture provides a separate Download PDF action, you won’t be able to force that specific button to download just by changing Chrome settings. Best check with your admin/partner if the page/action can be customized or whether there is another Document Capture action for exporting/downloading the original file.

    Hi Zeb,
The behaviour you describe is most likely coming from how Document Capture stream the file to the browser. When you click "PDF File", it may be sending the PDF with the Content-Disposition header set to "inline" rather than "attachment", which tell the browser to display it instead of download. That is why changing the Chrome PDF setting does not help, the browser is just following the server hint.
If you want to confirm this is the case, open Chrome DevTools (F12) → Network tab → click "PDF File" in BC again, and check the response headers for the PDF request. You will see the Content-Disposition value there.

Document Capture is an ISV solution from Continia, so the streaming logic is inside their extension. Few things you can try:
First, in the PDF viewer that opens, there is usually a download icon in the toolbar to save it locally.

Second, check if Document Capture has a setup option for "Download" behaviour, sometimes hidden in user setup or company configuration.

Third, if you need direct download for all users, raise a request to Continia support.
    Hope this help,
