This last week Craig Gudeman, Systems Development Manager at Avastone Technologies, had the opportunity to sit with Chris from the ‘Connector for Microsoft Dynamics’ team at Microsoft. During this conversation a great many interesting topics were discussed. Here is what he had to say...
The first big take away I had from this conversation was that there is no reason not to be using Dynamics CRM with any of Microsoft’s Dynamics ERP solutions, whether you utilize Dynamics GP, AX, SL, or NAV. Dynamics CRM can easily integrate into your company to streamline many of your company’s processes and to expose data to your workforce without using costly ERP licenses. Connector for Microsoft Dynamics makes this task even easier with out of the box adapters for all five enterprise class products.
As an example of what is provided out of the box the following image, from Microsoft, demonstrates the entity mapping between Dynamics GP and Dynamics CRM.
My second take away was that while Microsoft creates all of these products and the various teams involved discuss implementation strategy there is significant configuration involved for the systems to talk accurately and reliably. From my experience install is a snap but when it comes to configuration, the configurator should have a fairly detailed understanding of the ERP, CRM and connector. Click here to continue reading.
My final take away was that Microsoft has created a specialized but greatly customizable tool. In addition to the out of the box adapters, the Connector Team provides a full SDK for developing additional adapters.
