In this post i will try to gather the baby steps that you have to do in order to install new cumulative updates on the same version of Dynamics NAV. Whatever the Version of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, but you should consider these steps in order to benefit from the new features in every cumulative update, Let’s begin:

  • First you have yo download the Cumulative update from Microsoft Customer Source, you have to select the Dynamics NAV Version whether localized version or W1 Version.
  • After extracting the file, you will notice that there are 2 folders, one is Application that contain FOB files and the other contain the EXE file. What is the difference between both? there are 2 kinds of hot fix for every cumulative update:
    • Application Hot Fix.
      • It is the new objects, reports, code units and so on, and this is the Application folder only.
    • Platform Hot Fix.
      • It is the *.dll files and *.Exe file for both client and server applications.
  • Uninstall the Old NAV Server.
  • Install the New NAV Cumulative Update EXE File.
  • After installing the new cumulative update, Import the FOB file from the application folder from the Development Environment.
  • From “Import Worksheet” that will appear, click “Replace All” to replace all new objects and reports, and you will see the new tables, pages or reports that will be added to the application.
  • Import the new License update.
  • And last, From Development environment go to “Compile” & Run “Sync. Schema with Verification“.
