In the last blog we started talking about teamwork and how to build and empower your dream team. I would like to continue down that path and focus on the area of delegation today. Using delegation techniques and strategies can effectively empower your team and increase productivity as a whole.
Good delegation techniques and systems can help individuals and organizations to be more effective. As we look into these area's it is important to keep in mind that when we delegate any responsibility or authority to another person to carry out specific activities we still remain accountable for the outcome of the delegated work. Delegations do not absolve you from your responsibility or accountability.
I often tell my team to be the CEO of their lives, both personally and in business, and they have owned that statement. It is easy to delegate to a team that you trust and rely on, and in return trust and rely on you. That doesn't just magically happen overnight, it requires time, energy, and investment in one another. Below are some strategies that will help.
1. Let It Go!
One of the hardest things for me to learn to do was to let it go. Once you delegate a task to your team, release it completely. Be available to them and follow up with them as needed. But let them own the task and handle it the way they see fit. Trust but verify.
2. Know Your Team!
You cannot appropriately assign a task to a team member if you do not know them, their skills, their talents, their personality, and their passions. Your goal is to set them up for success so in the end you can celebrate them and their accomplishments.
3. Include Instructions, Tools and Training!
If you do not give them a target, timeline, goals, expected delivery, they have no way of knowing if they are on the right path. Your goal is to set them up for success and that includes providing them with whatever they need to accomplish that.
4. Follow Up and Feed Back!
In the end sit down with them, celebrate success and talk about opportunities. Mentor them for the future and allow them to do the same for you. Ask the tough questions like,"How could I have prepared you better? What tools could I have given you to make the task easier?" Feedback goes both ways so make sure this time is productive for you and your team.
Being an administrator that delegates well will empower you to distribute the workload effectively and evenly among the team members. It will encourage growth and development for your team within their roles and the company. I believe that delegation promotes personal development and supports positive self-esteem in your team mates, setting them up for successful lives and careers. Delegation also allows you to prioritize your day and focus on the key area's that require your attention as the ERP Administrator and allow you to be the Super Admin you were destined to be.
