One of the greatest things about using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or NAV is the wealth of resources out there to help you and all your users learn how to use the system to its full potential. However, with that wealth of content comes a dilemma: where can you consistently find the highest quality training material? What resources should you bookmark so that you can keep coming back any time you have a question or need training?
Luckily, we have compiled a set of links that can help you find these go-to sources of Business Central/NAV expertise. Many of these resources are free and available to anyone, regardless of if they are a current customer or not.
Let’s start with resources available from us. Innovia Consulting not only provides direct implementation and support services but also has a commitment to providing users high-quality training in a variety of formats.
These in-depth training classes focus on key Business Central/NAV topics and bring in expert instructors who help our clients master functions like Finance, Manufacturing, and Warehousing every day. These paid workshops range from a few hours to several days and can be scheduled virtually or in-person.
Innovia customers get a 10% discount (which goes up to 20% if they have completed the CSP process with us), and many courses are priced “per company,” meaning your business pays once and as many people as you want can attend.
This section of the Innovia website answers many of the most frequently asked questions we hear when we speak with customers and prospects. If there’s a burning question you have about BC/NAV or a related topic, check here, and if we don’t have your question, submit it so we can add it.
Innovia holds frequent free webinars on a wide range of topics, including BC/NAV tips and tricks, ISV solutions, and other related topics. Registration is easy and all webinars are hosted in our on-demand webinar after they occur. All webinars include a Q&A session so you can ask the presenters your questions.
Innovia Consulting has a long-running blog series that covers not only the hottest BC/NAV topics but also information on other Microsoft products, ISV solutions, and professional development topics. There’s something here for everyone, and the category and search features help you find exactly what you’re looking for.
Learn “how they did it” in these stories of Innovia clients’ success with Business Central, NAV, Microsoft cloud solutions, and ISV products. The case study library includes both written stories and video testimonials, where you can hear directly from people who’ve done great things with their systems.
To get the latest Business Central/NAV tips and tricks on the go, subscribe to The Innovia Conversation podcast on your favorite platform. Hosts Steve and Jeff release about two episodes per month where they welcome a wide range of guests, including Innovia staff, ISV partners, and customers to share their stories.
Each year Innovia Consulting hosts a customer conference. This event is free for customers to attend (including hotel) and includes an agenda filled with in-depth Business Central/NAV training sessions, as well as opportunities to connect with many of our ISV partners. In 2021, we will hold the event on the campus of the University of Notre Dame near South Bend, IN, May 5-6.
Last, but not least, Innovia clients have access to a customer engagement specialist to help them fully utilize their Business Central/NAV systems. While they are not technical experts, they are experienced business professionals who know how to implement projects at businesses in many industries. And since they work closely together, you'll likely benefit from the knowledge of more than just your assigned person. They are a nonbillable resource to help clients understand their system, plan for the future, and make improvements.
On a related point, Innovia's delivery team is also a great resource for you. Not only do they work on our project and support team, but they also serve as our workshop and webinar instructors and help the customer engagement team offer recommendations backed by their experience. With Innovia Consulting, you have all the resources of our all-star team at your disposal.
Of course, one of the best sources for Business Central and NAV information is the company that built it! Here are some of the many resources Microsoft offers to help you master your system.
The Microsoft Docs portal contains straightforward descriptions of virtually all the BC/NAV functions, organized by business functions and departments. This site is well-worth bookmarking for any time you need information on a specific feature. The search bar is your friend if you can’t find the topic you need in the outline on the left-hand side.
This page on the BC documentation site guides you to many other learning resources. It is a useful page to visit when you are interested in learning something new.
If you want guided training with a mix of text, video, quizzes, and examples, this is the site you are looking for! Microsoft Learn is a comprehensive video collection organized into 1,889 (at current count) modules, which cover virtually all Microsoft Products. They are designed for roles ranging from App Engineers to Business Owners, and everything in-between. For BC/NAV users, start by selecting your product (first Dynamics 365, then Business Central). For most users, we recommend selecting Business User as your role.
We recommend subscribing (or at least bookmarking) this YouTube channel. It not only includes all the latest updates but also includes a searchable list of “How-To” Videos for Business Central.
Still looking for something specific? These resources from other sources may just be what you need to find your answers.
Innovia is a long-time sponsor of Dynamic Communities, which offers a robust Q&A board where you can submit your BC/NAV questions to the community. Dynamic Communities also offers many learning and networking events throughout the year, including local group meetings. Innovia clients can get a reduced membership fee.
As we discussed, BC/NAV is designed to support add-on features (fee-based) from Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) There are thousands of ISVs that provide add-on capabilities for everything from HR Management/Payroll to Ecommerce to Credit Card Processing to Reporting.
Since we are talking about training, let’s conclude this resource guide by highlighting one ISV partner that can help you create your own training materials and documentation. ClickLearn allows you to build detailed instructions for any task imaginable in BC/NAV, Microsoft 365, and many other applications. Just by clicking through your process, you can create instructions for your team in 7 different formats, and it’s easy to adjust these instructions for different languages and program updates.
As you seek to help your entire team benefit from the resources on this page, ClickLearn may be a valuable tool for sharing what you have learned.
