we got the below error, when connecting to Navision 2013 R2 using development environment
Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment
The Object table contains a Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment field data type that is not compatible with the SQL Server data type:
Field: Version List
SQL type: VARCHAR(80)
Looks like there is a field mismatch. NAV field is 248 characters and the sql server has it 80.
This is supposed to changed during upgrade of the database to 2013 R2.
I suggest to fix it on sql manually with sql sms, I'm curious what else is wrong with the db.
Yes, the length of Version list in sql is 80, i have tried to change the length to 248 but sql giving me the error
"Cannot find the object "object" because it does not exist or you do not have permissions" and the below(using admin)
Dear Raja Sekhar,
The Cause of the issue if i am not wrong -
"You tried to open the database of NAV 2013 R2 with build 36281 but then decide not to upgrade".
Here is what you can do -
(Before performing take a backup of database)
1. Upgrade the client and service with the Update rollup 5 for NAV 2013 R2.
You can download same from mbs2.microsoft.com/.../KBDisplay.aspx
2. Open the database with upgraded build in developer environment, convert it and it should work fine.
Let me know if any issues.
ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Object]
ALTER COLUMN [Version List] VARCHAR(248) NOT NULL
If you want to avoid upgrading your database to a newer version of NAV you can also make a change in SQL server to reverse the problem.
The bug is that even if you cancel, for some reason opening in the new version is still shrinking the size of the "Version List" field in the object table from 248 to 80 characters.
Simply alter your Object table in your nav database in SQL and expand the varchar "Version List" back to 248.
Thank you so much for this. This has helped us tremendously.
