Hello everyone,

I
wanted to take this opportunity to talk about some things that you may not know about Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Hotfixes.

  1. You must be enrolled in a Microsoft Dynamics RMS maintenance plan to obtain Microsoft Dynamics RMS Feature Packs, Service Packs, or Hotfixes. For information about how to enroll in a maintenance plan or obtain a quote, please contact your Microsoft Dynamics Certified RMS partner or the Microsoft Dynamics Sales Operations team at 800-456-0025.
  2. Starting with Hotfix 2529724 (#21), all hotfixes will be available for review and download from a published Knowledge Base article. This gives users enrolled in a Microsoft Dynamics RMS maintenance plan, who have access to CustomerSource or PartnerSource the ability to download the hotfix or hotfixes at their convenience without creating a support request with the Microsoft Dynamics Retail Support Team.
  3. Hotfixes released before Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Service Pack 4, will continue to be available by creating a support request with the Microsoft Dynamics Retail Support Team. Support requests can be created through eSupport or by telephone by calling 888-477-7877.
  4. During the past several months we have seen a lot of requests for multiple hotfixes. This leads me to believe that there are some misconceptions in the community about how hotfixes work. Hopefully the following list will help clarify come of the confusion.
    • All Microsoft Dynamics RMS Feature Packs, Service Packs, and Hotfixes are cumulative. For example, this means that hotfix #21, #22, #23, #24, #25, #26, #27 have all been rolled up into hotfix #28.
    • We do not recommend installing sequential hotfixes to upgrade to the most recent build. Instead, we strongly advise you to apply only the most recent cumulative hotfix.
    • There are several reasons for not installing multiple hot-fixes one after the other. The reasons include but are not limited to the following:
      • There is no benefit to installing individual hotfixes.
      • Time lost by installing unnecessary hotfixes.
      • You lose the ability to revert to your original version. For example, if you are currently running Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Service Pack 4, and then apply hotfix #21, #22, #23, and #24 and then find a problem, you are only able to remove hotfix #24 and go back to hotfix #23. If you want to go back to Service Pack 4, you will have to completely uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0, apply Feature Pack 1, and then Service Pack 4 to revert back to your original version.
      • You risk the possibility of running multiple builds of RMS on your system.
